Life, the Universe, and Everything

Last Day!

Posted by JBSil on 16th May 2008

Today is the last day to sponsor me for AIDS Walk New York!
If you were planning on sponsoring me and had not yet gotten around to it, now is the time. You have until midnight est.

I have already reached and exceeded my goal of $2000.00 for this year, but that doesn’t mean you should decide not to sponsor me! Every dollar counts. New this year, Kintera not only accepts all major credit cards, but also PayPal! So, you know that PayPal balance that has been sitting in your account for who knows how long? Now you can use that money to sponsor me :)

And here’s a re-post of my full thermometer:

AIDS Walk New York

Posted by JBSil on 2nd April 2008

I finally sent out my sponsor email today, even though AWNY is in just over a month. Some of you reading this probably got the email already. The short version is, this is my 14th consecutive year, and I’m trying to raise over 2 grand. Help me out! And while you’re at it, help the millions of people living with AIDS/HIV have a better life, and support the search for a cure.

Off the train, and back on again

Posted by JBSil on 3rd April 2007

Sad to say it, but I fell off the back of the Fitness Train, as sylvieus put it. For over a month. Bad me, bad. I managed to not put any of the weight that I had originally lost back on, so that’s a plus. Not an excuse by any means, but still, better than gaining it all back. That would have pissed me off.

Anyway, I climbed back on yesterday, and buckled in for the long haul. Yesterday sucked because I wasn’t used to it, but today was much much better. I’ve decided to do a full cardio-resistance-abs workout once a day, and I’m going to try doing another set of abs/push-ups at night, assuming I worked out in the morning. Like I said, I’m buckled in this time. I’m done jerking myself around, telling myself I’ll eventually lose the weight and look better, and then not working out. Doesn’t make any sense. So now it’s 6 days a week, 7 if I feel up to it. Until I’m at my target weight, and then I’ll reevaluate how often I need to keep it up to keep the weight off.

I’ve set a VERY ambitious goal for myself for before the New Orleans trip on April 19th. If I actually make it to that goal, I’ll have to celebrate or something. But as long as I actually try, and get relatively close, I’ll be happy. There’s also another fairly ambitious goal for before AIDS Walk on May 20th. That one I’ve got almost 2 months to reach, so if I don’t get there, it will be no ones fault but my own. It would be nice to actually feel good about the way I look by the time summer rolls around. I don’t think I’ll quite make it, but I should be damn close. A hell of a lot closer than I am now, that’s for sure.

Speaking of which, AIDS Walk is just over a month away. Most of you probably got an email about it, and you all saw this post, so this is just a friendly reminder =D. http://aidswalknewyork2007.kintera.org/jbsil - in case you lost the link *smirk*

AWNY – The site is up, lets get the ball rolling!

Posted by JBSil on 8th February 2007

AIDS Walk New York is coming up yet again. This will be my 14th year participating in this amazing event. Last year AWNY raised over $6.47 million, by far the most per year so far. Every year we beat the previous year’s total by a huge margin, and this year should be no different. Please, read more about this amazing event.

2007 is my 14th year participating in AWNY, my 12th year as a volunteer and my 7th year as a Key Volunteer. As a Key Volunteer, my responsibilities are much greater, but they also include a lot of in-office time, pre-walk. Because I live so far away, I’ve never been able to complete the in-office portion of my duties, and one of the ways I try to make up for that is by raising money. Key Volunteers are not expected to do any fund raising at all, but it has been my goal since I’ve started supporting AWNY to raise over $1000 every year, and so far I’ve been successful 7 years running. This year my goal is $1500, and I hope you can help me reach it.

Many of you don’t know that I used to play piano, quite avidly in grade school. I had the most amazing piano teacher in Brooklyn, and he really helped me flourish. His name was Alfred. At the time I was actually considering becoming a pianist. I remember the exact day after school when I went upstairs for my piano lesson and found out it was canceled. Alfred was sick. A short while later Alfred passed away. He died because the treatment for AIDS at the time wasn’t advanced enough to keep him healthy enough to survive pneumonia. All of his students performed the pieces they were working on at his funeral. That was the last time I enjoyed playing piano.

Since then I’ve devoted my life to a different sort of delicate finger movements by programming my heart out, every day of the week. But I’ve also devoted every spring to raising money and supporting the AIDS Walk, in his memory. Please, join me in the fight against AIDS, and support this incredible cause. Sponsor me for AIDS Walk New York, 2007.*

*Online donations have a $25 minimum (and no maximum, hint hint). If you’d like to sponsor me for less than that, just let me know and I’ll give you the information you’ll need.
