Rules are made to be broken. For example, the rule that says I’m no longer allowed to be a Local Administrator on the sever at my office, where I am the entire Network Admin, Server Admin, and Desktop Support staff, in my opinion, is not a road block, per say, but more of a congested 3 lane merge.

Take away my privileges if you want to, that’s certainly not going to stop me. Now, instead of simply fixing shit that’s broken, I have to call the Help Desk, prove that they can’t fix it, get them to call the Server team, and convince someone who’s qualified to authorize a Fire Call for me. “Sir, Fire Calls are only used for emergencies.” “Fine, I’ll just tell my entire office that they can’t print for a week because the IT Server Team won’t give me enough access to fix the problem, and tell the technician who is here now, that he has to come back next week because I can’t give him an account with enough access to do any of the work he came here to do.”

I’ve had 3 Fire Calls issued in my name so far. One would think they will eventually just get the drift that I actually do need Local Admin rights, and that it will save everyone 2 hours of time when things break. One would be wrong, should they think that. This time around, I’ve been trying for two days to get rights to this server for my appointment which was supposed to be 20 minutes ago. Luckily the guy is late. I started early, hoping they could use a Remedy Ticket this time, instead of a Fire Call. They are incompetent. Now I have to go up the ladder, over peoples heads, and get managers of entire departments to authorize a simple account change, for a whole 2 hours.

I hate going over people’s heads! It always pisses people off

Last night I made a horrid, horrid mistake. Tonight I’m going to sleep before the possibility of that mistake manifests itself again. Hopefully I’ll actually be able to sleep, even though it’s crazy hot, and I’ll have to shut my door and close out the air conditioning >.< Wish me luck!
