Don’t look no farther
Baby I’m back (yeah)
I’m here to cater to you (any thing that you want me [to] do I’ll do it)
Cause I’ll be your lover (I’ll be your lover)
and I’ll be your best friend
Tell me what I gotta do (tell me what I gotta do and I’ll do it)

So I walk into work today … stroll on passed a few cubes and some offices … end up at my cubicle. Ok, WTF?

When we first moved into this building, they gave us these keyboard tray things that really sucked. The first thing I did when I moved into my cubicle was remove the keyboard tray because it was so big, bulky, and immobile that I couldn’t sit at my desk without lowering my chair to an uncomfortable height. Subsequently, everyone in the office has removed or stopped using the old trays

Apparently someone’s been complaining enough about the complete lack of ergonomics here. I walked into my cube this morning to find a new keyboard tray installed, with my keyboard and mouse on it already. Just .. no .. don’t fuck with my shit, I had it the way I wanted it. But, I decided to give it a try. So far, in writing these two paragraphs, I’ve adjusted it 3 times, and my wrist is still hurting.

Damnit, they used a power screwdriver to put the stopper in this time. Guess I can’t remove it. They’re lucky this one’s paper thin and I can just leave it shoved under the desk, at least for now. Project 1 for this morning – Restoring my desk space to the way it was when I left – completed, in only an hour’s time. Hey, it’s not my money they’re wasting. Idiots.

zombie nation

Posted by JBSil on 19th May 2005

So I’ve been spending the last two and a half weeks at work doing … other things. For a while I was cranking out the YWCA project because that had to be finished. Since then I’ve pretty much just been sitting around finding things to keep me occupied. It’s not like I don’t have work to do … I’m two weeks behind on my real work, and I can’t seem to focus or make myself do it. Usually when I slump like this it’s for a day or two and then I make up for it the following day. This time I can’t seem to start making up for it. Not sure what to do, really.

In other news …

The relatively new receptionist, Betsy, who seems like a really cool person, is leaving. They treated her like crap and she found a better job (I think better paying too): Camp Counselor somewhere in Vermont I think.

The relatively new accountant, Mike, is leaving. I hope he has another job lined up, but I don’t know for sure. They treat him like crap and all of our systems are messed up, so his job was hell.

Julie is leaving at the end of the summer. She and I have had our ups and downs, and she’s usually lacking in intelligence/common sense, but she’s a friendly face that I’ve gotten used to. Her job is hell and our boss treats the entire department like crap, so it’s no wonder she’s leaving. Going back to school in Buffalo.

Nick, the only other programmer in the company (who I’ve been training for the past 2 weeks), is going to Greece for 2 months over the summer. He probably wont come back here when he gets back.

Sandy has been talking about quitting for almost 2 years now. Someday she might actually do it.

All the rats are jumping ship. Probably time to look for a new job soon.

Outgoing Erika from AWNY gave me her number again this year. I still haven’t and still wont call her, but it’s nice to be flirted with sometimes. Felt like she wanted to kiss me when I was saying goodbye at the staff dinner. That part wasn’t cool, so it was good that I was leaving and wont see or speak to her again until May ‘06.

Shayna from Mel’s told me part of her life story yesterday in an attempt to get me to go out rollerblading with her. Sorry Charlie, I’m still not interested. And besides, who in their right mind buys those stupid rollerblades with a handheld brake button thing, and then tells the people she’s waiting on at lunch? But, she’s new to the area and has no friends, so maybe she’s just lonely and I’m reading it all wrong. Or maybe that was a ploy to make me think that. Either way, she can find other friends. It was nice to be flirted with the first time, how ever many weeks ago. Now it’s just weird. Nick and Julie think it’s hilarious though, so at least I’m providing entertainment.

Dinner tonight with the whole NTMP YWCA crew at James’ house. So bored that I customized my MapQuest directions to incorporate his directions. As in, editing the HTML so I can print out what looks like MapQuest but has his directions on it. What a productive use of work time.

Just like however long it took me to write this post. Awesome. Guess it’s about time for lunch now, since I’ve accomplished nothing all morning. Woohoo.

Artist – Melissa Ferrick
Album – Freedom
Song – Drive

If you want this
If you want this
If you want this, you’re gonna have to ask
Nicely please
Yeah if you want this
You’re gonna have to ask
You’re gonna have to ask me
Whatever you want
I’ll give it to you
I’ll give to you slowly
‘Til you’re just beggin me to hold you
Yeah whatever you want
Whatever you want
But you’re gonna have to ask me

Chorus:
Cuz your mouth waters
Stretched out on my bed
Your fingers are trembling
And your heart is heavy and red
Your head is bent back
Your back is arched
My hand is under there
Holding you up
I’ll hold you up
And drive you all night
I’ll hold you up
And drive you baby
‘Til you feel the daylight
I’ll hold you up
And drive you all night
I’ll hold you up
And drive you ’til you feel the daylight

That’s right
That’s right
In the kitchen
In the shower
In the backseat of my car
I’ll hold you up
In your office
Preferrably during business hours
Cuz you know how I like it
When there’s people around
And I know how you like it
Yeah I know how you like it
I know how you like it
When I tease you for hours

Chorus

Oh and this has just begun
Yeah this has just begun
Cuz we haven’t even gotten started yet
I haven’t even
I haven’t even tied you up
I haven’t even even (turned you over)
Turned you over
This is where I wanna live
Right here
Between your hips
Where all the love you hold and hide
It’s where it lives
Right here between your hips
This is where I wanna live
It’s where all the love you give exists

Chorus

That’s right
yeah (that’s right)
That’s right
(I love you, I’ll hold you up)
Yea (I’ll love you all night)
Yea

Edit:
If you’ve never heard this song, you should

My weekend

Posted by JBSil on 17th May 2005

Friday – straight from work to airport, late flight, straight to sister’s Gala. Made it from JFK to uptown in 45 minutes. Don’t ask how, it was a fucking miracle. Didn’t leave till like 11. Downtown to 24th St Hotel … locked out of my hotel room, thanks to Elliot’s girlfriend. Asleep at midnight. IN Central Park at 6 a.m. No, bad, too early, yuck.

Worked all day Saturday moving barricades and cones and escorting trucks and then orientation for volunteers … twice. Thanks for being an hour late, that’s really helpful. Then back to dropping ‘cades and escorting. Left the park some time after dark, filthy. Showered, asleep at midnight again. Left the new hotel at 4 a.m. Sunday. Let me tell you just how thrilled I was about that.

Sunday was loooooooooooong

Is it 3:30 yet?

Posted by JBSil on 13th May 2005

Finally finished my 4 month long project yesterday … a whopping 10 minutes before the presentation of it. Nah, that wasn’t stressful. At least it’s over.

Got to turn in peer evaluations though. Fucking system sucks:
The group as a whole had a chance to earn 75 points over the quarter. If we earned 70 points or more, everyone starts with a C and then goes up based on your peer evals, which range from 0-25. Sounds good, right? Wrong. 5 of us got the group to over 70 points. The other 5 watched, and still get an automatic C. BAH!

Why the system sucks

Scheduling

Posted by JBSil on 9th May 2005

2 elective slots to fill over the summer: 1 Lab Science and 1 Liberal Arts

2 5 week sessions during the summer quarter to do it in.

Out of ALL of the Lab Science electives I can find and ALL of the Liberal Arts electives I can find … there is exactly ONE class offered during the second 5 week session. Juvenile Justice from the Criminal Justice department.

This course examines the concepts, theories and environmental influences of juvenile offenders, the impact of the judicial system, control and corrections on juvenile justice. The course also examines the role of forces in the system including police, courts, community resources and treatment.

Whoopadidoo. Guess that’s what I’m taking then. Blarg.

Edit for clarity:
5 week sessions means class times doubled. I.E. 4 credit classes meet for 8 hours a week. This combined with the need to work at least 30 hours a week to keep my benefits means it would be completely impossible to take 2 4 credit classes (16 hours a week) in one 5 week session. The problem above is about the complete lack of flexibility between the two sessions. Why even have the two sessions if everything is offered first session and there are about 3 classes during second session in the entire university? WTF?
